International Water Management Institute (IWMI) fosters innovation through partnerships for collective action that advance the transformation of water systems toward sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient development.

IWMI in Nepal co-designs and implements applied research programs that address socio-technical, institutional, financial, and environmental challenges of water management within the country’s rapidly evolving climatic and socio-economic contexts.

This assignment outlines the engagement of a national consultant with proven experience in public–private partnerships (PPPs) and business plan development for scaling socio-technical innovations in the development sector in general, and in the water and agriculture sectors in particular. The consultant will lead efforts to scale irrigation and water management interventions; facilitate strategic dialogues with private sector actors, government agencies, development partners, and user groups; and co-design business models and scaling pathways that promote water solutions for productive and domestic uses, benefiting smallholder farmers, women, youth, and marginalized groups.

The consultant will also contribute to creating an enabling environment, such as financing mechanisms, market linkages, policy support, and partnership strategies, necessary for scaling water and energy nexus solutions to support agri-food systems transformation. The position involves close collaboration with IWMI researchers and local partners to ensure the effective delivery of project outputs.

SCOPE OF WORK:

1.       Technical Support:

  • Analyze the enabling environment for promoting public–private–community partnerships (PPCPs) in irrigation services.
  • Lead the business ecosystem analysis and demand signaling for scaling socio-technical innovations, including irrigation services, lift and solar irrigation, micro-irrigation technologies, multiple-use water systems (MUS), and agricultural knowledge hubs.
  • Lead, in collaboration with partners, the development of PPCP strategies and business plans for Water-as-a-Service (WaaS) and irrigated agricultural value chains.
  • Develop, validate, and finalize financial models that ensure the affordability, sustainability, and scalability of WaaS solutions.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality project outputs, including technical reports and knowledge products, to share insights and promote the uptake of socio-technical innovations.
     

2.      Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Management for Scaling Innovations:

  • Collaborate closely with government agencies, development partners, the private sector, and civil society organizations to integrate tested and scalable water and agricultural solutions into national and sub-national policies, strategies, and investment frameworks.
  • Facilitate strategic partnerships with private sector actors, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), cooperatives, financial institutions, and development partners to co-design, pilot, and upscale successful innovations in irrigation and irrigated agricultural value chains.
  • Collaborate with organizations and networks representing women and youth to ensure that socio-technical innovations and business models are inclusive, gender-responsive, and tailored to local needs.
     

3.       Knowledge Management, Co-Learning, and Communication:

  • Support the preparation of technical reports, impact stories, briefs, and other communication materials on socio-technical innovations and their scaling for both internal and external audiences.
  • Organize and facilitate strategic dialogues, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and learning events focused on scaling irrigation, solar-powered water systems, and climate-smart agriculture.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

Essential:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Business Management, Business Administration, Development Economics, Agricultural Economics, or other closely related disciplines relevant to water and energy resource management and agricultural innovation systems and scaling.
  • A minimum of 5–7 years of practical experience in public–private partnerships, agricultural value chain development, and/or business plan co-development with partners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in facilitating investment and resource mobilization for scaling tested solutions related to water/irrigation services and micro-irrigation technologies.
  • Prior experience working with international organizations, private sector entities, financial institutions, or multilateral development institutions.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proven ability to co-develop and operationalize business models with project partners and stakeholders for scaling tested innovations.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to review literature and produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Excellent networking and partnership-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders at both national and sub-national levels.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and experience working within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational and facilitation skills, with the capacity to work independently while coordinating across teams.
  • Sound understanding of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) principles in the context of Nepal’s water and agricultural sectors.

Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities

the integration of CIFOR-ICRAF tools and datasets with project partners.

·       Co-Lead the planning and coordination of a network
of learning sites on tree-based Nature+ practices and approaches, ensuring

evaluation systems.

·       Design, coordinate, and evaluate participatory
training programs on tree-based Nature+ practices, ensuring methodological
quality, inclusion, and alignment with project learning and capacity-building
strategies.

·       Lead the adaptation and scaling of tree species
selection tools to improve biodiversity outcomes at plot and landscape levels,
coordinating their validation and practical application with project partners.

·       Plan and supervise complementary activities that
contribute to CIFOR-ICRAF research and support the intervention of the national
technical team in Ucayali, within the framework of the institutional agenda.

·       Prepare and submit high-quality technical progress
and final reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with donor
and institutional requirements.


Requirements

·       Master in Forestry, Environmental, or Agronomic
engineering with a minimum of five years of experience in coordinating field

About the Position 

WorldFish is seeking to engage two (02) interns to support the Aquatic Animal Genetics Team in Penang, Malaysia. The interns will support activities under the Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) Genetic Improvement and Dissemination Program, which include—but are not limited to—fish production, dissemination of GIFT, and laboratory-based genetic and GIFT health surveillance work. The candidates will work as part of an interdisciplinary team with expertise in quantitative genetics, molecular biology, aquaculture systems, aquatic animal health, and dissemination programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in research activities at WorldFish Penang Headquarters that are related to the Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of the Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) strain.
  • Support sampling activities for genetic and health surveillance programs.
  • Assist in molecular laboratory work (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR preparation, gel electrophoresis, data recording) as needed.

The International Potato Center (CIP) seeks to recruit
a full-time Scientist to support the implementation of the FAO’s
“Additional Financing for Afghanistan Emergency Food Security Project.”
The
position will be based in Karnal, Haryana, India, and will play a key
role in strengthening Afghanistan’s potato seed systems. The successful
candidate will be responsible for arranging potato seed supply to Kabul,
developing training materials, and delivering both virtual and in-person
training sessions for trainers and farmers on best practices in potato seed
production. Additionally, the Scientist will develop protocols for the
evaluation of CIP germplasm to identify and advance locally adapted potato
varieties and will prepare monthly and annual technical project reports.

About the role: This
position will be based in Karnal, Haryana, India
. The selected candidate will
be under the direct supervision and guidance of
the Principal Investigator of the project.

Key responsibilities:

The ideal candidate
will mainly focus on these tasks/responsibilities below:

  •  Provide scientific leadership in the development of training
    materials and capacity-building programs, both online and in-person, on best
    potato seed production practices and the participatory evaluation of CIP
    germplasm using the PVS approach.
  • Oversee and facilitate the supply
    of CIP advanced germplasm and potato seed of released Indian varieties for
    adaptability trials and seed multiplication in Afghanistan.
  • Lead the design and supervision of
    research trials for evaluating potato varieties and CIP germplasm under Afghan
    conditions.
  • Conduct statistical analyses,
    synthesize research findings, and ensure the timely preparation of monthly and
    annual technical reports for donors.

  • Contribute to and/or lead the
    formulation of new project proposals and funding opportunities related to
    potato research and development in collaboration with national and
    international partners.


Requirements

The ideal candidate
should have the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal characteristics:

  • PhD
    Scientist with 8-10 years’ potato field experience on quality potato seed
    production, experience in imparting training on best potato production
    practices to farmers/ extension staff, developing the training material and can
    support in writing the potato proposals for funding

  • Experience
    in lab, people and project management.
  • Advanced level in written and spoken English.
  • Analytical thinking, hard worker, organized,
    good communicating and continuous improvement.

desarrollar actividades con enfoque participativo e igualdad de género en

”.

 

Objetivos:

a)       Participar en
las reuniones de coordinación y fortalecimiento técnico organizadas por el
especialista del componente cualitativo y el responsable técnico del proyecto
RESANDES para garantizar el desarrollo del trabajo de campo y el proceso de
recolección.

b)       Facilitar la
comunicación en el idioma nativo entre el equipo técnico del proyecto y los
líderes comunitarios para garantizar los procesos de coordinación comunitaria.

c)       Facilitar la
comunicación en el idioma nativo durante el enrolamiento de participantes
(agricultores y mujeres) en campo.

d)       Facilitar la
aplicación de técnicas cualitativas individuales (entrevistas a profundidad) y
las actividades participativas (mapeo de activos y foto voz) en el idioma
nativo orientados a los ejes temáticos de agricultura, nutrición, seguridad
alimentaria y cambio climático.

e)       Participar de la
transcripción de audios facilitando la comprensión y traducción de secciones
habladas en el idioma nativo de la zona de estudio.

f)        Realizar aportes cualitativos desde la
perspectiva comunitaria y nativa para el proceso de sistematización de
información dirigido por el especialista cualitativo.

·       Entregable 1: Reporte técnico de avance en el desarrollo de actividades de
facilitación durante la planificación comunitaria que incluya información
sobre:

          Reuniones de coordinación y fortalecimiento técnico con el equipo de la
fase cualitativa y el responsable del proyecto RESANDES.

          Reporte sobre avance en la facilitación de los procesos de coordinación
comunitaria y enrolamiento de participantes de acuerdo a la muestra y tiempo
planificado en el proyecto.

 

·       Entregable 2:  Informe de actividades de
facilitación durante el proceso de investigación cualitativa que incluya
información sobre:

          Reporte de actividades de facilitación durante la aplicación de técnicas
cualitativas individuales y el desarrollo de actividades participativas de
acuerdo a la muestra y tiempo planificado en el proyecto.

          Reporte de contribución con el proceso de transcripción de archivos de
audio y la entrega de archivos al especialista cualitativo.

          Detalles de aportes en los procesos de sistematización alineados al
objetivo de la fase cualitativa requeridos por el responsable técnico del
proyecto.

Un informe parcial que contenga la
asistencia técnica realizada de acuerdo con lo detallado en el numeral 2,
literal c).


Requirements

·       Bachiller en Ciencias Sociales
con mención en Antropología o carreras afines.

·       Al menos 3 meses aplicando
técnicas cualitativas y participativas como: entrevistas a profundidad, mapeos,
talleres cualitativos.

·       Experiencia profesional como
facilitador de campo o asistente de campo en actividades de recolección y
análisis cualitativo como desarrollo de: entrevistas a profundidad, mapeos,
talleres cualitativos, transcripción de audios.

·       Experiencia en campo con
comunidades campesinas en zona andina o en departamentos del sur del Perú.
